Diesel prices in Maine remain near record territory, adding costs to farmers and pressure truckers heading into the fall shipping season.
The statewide average for diesel stands at $6.51 a gallon as of September 25, according to AAA data, just shy of the all-time high of $6.52 that AAA recorded on September 22. That’s up about 6 cents from a week ago and roughly $2.63 higher than this time last year, when diesel averaged $3.88. That’s an increase of about 68 percent.
Gas prices have climbed too. Regular gasoline averages $4.43 a gallon statewide, about $1.32 higher than a year ago, when drivers were paying $3.11 per gallon. Unfortunately, fuel prices are not expected to come down anytime soon, leaving Mainers searching for relief.
