The University of Maine field hockey team kept it close on the road Sunday afternoon, but ultimately fell short to the Towson Tigers 1-0.

Towson controlled much of the game, outshooting the Black Bears 17-1, but Maine goalkeeper Annabel Halkes kept the Black Bears within striking distance throughout. Halkes finished with 11 saves in a performance that held one of the Tigers’ most active offensive afternoons to a single goal.

Maine returns home to begin conference play. The Black Bears open the America East slate on Friday, hosting the UAlbany Great Danes at the UMaine Field Hockey Complex.
