The University of Maine football team came up just short in its latest game, falling 22-16 to Boston College on Saturday, Sept. 19, in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

The Black Bears faced an early deficit but battled back throughout the afternoon. Maine scored 10 points in the second quarter to cut into Boston College’s lead, then added another touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it a one-score game. The Bears’ defense kept Boston College off the scoreboard in the final quarter, but Maine could not complete the comeback.

The loss dropped Maine to 1-3 on the season, but the close finish against an FBS opponent provided a much different result than the Black Bears’ previous FBS matchup, a 55-3 loss at Appalachian State.

Maine will now turn its attention back to CAA play. The Black Bears travel to Elon on Saturday, Sept. 26, looking to get back into the win column.
