Maine’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.1 percent in July, marking the fourth consecutive month at that level, according to data released by the Maine Department of Labor.
The rate has stayed within a narrow band of 3.1 to 3.3 percent for 23 straight months, and has held below four percent for 55 months — the longest such stretch on record for the state.
Maine’s unemployment rate has remained below the national average for more than 18 years and continues to sit well under the state’s long-term average of 5.4 percent dating back to 1976.
